Appalachian Community Capital Launches Western North Carolina Small Business Initiative with Lead Grant from Dogwood Health Trust
Asheville, N.C. – Appalachian Community Capital (ACC) is proud to announce the launch of the Western North Carolina Small Business Initiative (WNCSBI), made possible by a $10 million lead grant from Dogwood Health Trust (DHT). The initiative will provide up to $25,000 in relief grants to very small businesses across the region that sustained physical damage from Hurricane Helene.

ACC Receives Financial Assistance Grant from the CDFI Fund
The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) recently awarded 357 Community Development Financial Institutions with $408.2 million in Financial Assistance awards to provide financial services and products for low-income and underserved individuals and communities across America. Appalachian Community Capital is pleased to have been one of the awardees, receiving an $800,000 grant to continue serving the small business needs in the Appalachian Region.

Appalachian Community Capital Awarded Grant from Truist Foundation
Christiansburg, VA, [August 28, 2024] – Appalachian Community Capital (ACC) is pleased to announce that Truist Foundation has awarded ACC a $1.3 million grant to support diverse small businesses in the Appalachian Region.
Small businesses are the backbone of Appalachia, and they are poised to provide the bridge to a resilient, diversified and sustainable economy that builds wealth and assets within local communities. However, without access to reliable financial resources and supporting capacity-building services, small businesses will continue to face barriers. The grant provided to ACC aligns with Truist Foundation’s pillar of strengthening small businesses. ACC and its members will increase access to capital by accelerating support to diverse small businesses in Appalachia, including businesses owned by persons of color and women.

Appalachian Community Capital receives $500 million award from EPA Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund – Clean Communities Investment Accelerator
Christiansburg, VA, August 16, 2024 – Appalachian Community Capital today formally announced the Green Bank for Rural America, an ambitious initiative aimed at empowering rural communities to thrive in the new energy economy. With a $500 million award from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Green Bank will leverage private capital to finance an estimated $1.6 billion into 2,000 new energy projects, creating 13,000 good jobs and reducing up to 850,000 tons of harmful pollution annually.

This grant supports ACC’s launch of the Resilient Appalachia Data Initiative, a transformative platform designed to equip regional CDFIs and the small businesses they serve with the data insights needed to lead the transition to a more sustainable and inclusive regional economy.

The projects will expand lending to communities lacking banking options across the Commonwealth while providing technical assistance to future borrows for business ventures. Opportunity Appalachia Selects 29 High-Impact Projects Seeking Over $275 Million in Investment to Receive Pre-Development Support
Christiansburg, Va. (June 3, 2024) – Opportunity Appalachia, a program of Appalachian Community Capital (ACC), has selected 29 projects to receive support to prepare for $275 million in investment for downtown and rural redevelopment projects in Central Appalachia. Proposed projects will develop a range of properties preparing to create over 2,700 local jobs and support over 340 individual businesses. Developments will support housing, entrepreneurial and clean energy hubs, manufacturing; community centers, arts & entertainment centers, coworking spaces, and hospitality enterprises. The projects are located in Appalachian communities in Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
